Looking for Interviewees

On May 1, 2014, I will begin posting interviews on the new website. As you probably know by now, the first is with members of Cast of a Thousand. Conducting this interview, as well as editing and organizing the questions and answers has been a lot of fun, and I believe readers will enjoy hearing from the band members themselves.

What I'd like to do is post a new interview on the first of each month, not only with bands, but individuals as well. To do this, I need volunteers—I don't always feel comfortable asking people if they'd like to be interviewed, but I will, if necessary.

If you would like to be interviewed, either about yourself as a solo artist, or as a former member of one of our many Gold Coast bands, please contact me at the email below and I'll begin constructing an interview. Here are some points:
  • The interview will be conducted by email.
  • You will have about two weeks, initially, to answer the questions.
  • The last two weeks of the month will be used for editing. The interview will be uploaded to the web, where you can review the work in progress and submit changes, deletions, or additions as we go along.
  • I will also need the following:
    • Current photo of yourself (each band member is responsible for submitting their own).
    • Current photo of the Gold Coast band, if you still play together.
    • Any gig dates you may have upcoming.
    • Links to pertinent websites and social networking profile pages.
That's it, really. My point in all of this is to bring attention to our area bands, not only in their past, but also in the present, especially if the members still get together to perform. More importantly, I'd like to bring more attention to band members who have solo careers, or who play with modern bands. But the most important thing is to have fun—fun for me as a writer, for you as an artist, and for readers as appreciators of our bands.

For more information, or to apply for an interview, please email me at califgoldcoast@gmail.com.

From the Mouths of Children

Spotted on the Children of the Mushroom Facebook page:

"Watch for a new vinyl album of unreleased Children of the Mushroom songs. Recorded in the 1960s. Unbelievable, but true! Guerssen has indicated it's now in production."

Just Added to the New Website

I've spent this beautiful, warm morning embedding videos into some of the Band Pages of the new website. Why? Because I love our Gold Coast bands, that's why, and I want to do everything in my power to get the word out that our Tri-counties area was the birthplace of some of the greatest bands to ever grace a garage, that's why!

This week, my goal is to hunt down as many videos as I can, although each page will have only one, sorry! But if you have a YouTube channel, I'll be more than pleased to link to it in the Relevant Links & Sources column. If you have a video you'd like to appear on your band's page, just send me the URL.

Here are the pages I worked on today:

Big Brother Ernie Joseph
The Biscaynes
Blue Wood
California Grassfield
The Calliope
Children of the Mushroom
Chiyo & the Crescents
The Colony
The Crystal Circus
David Marks & the Marksmen
The Dovers
Ernie and The Emperors
The Giant Crab
Rabbit MacKay
The Mixtures
The Moon
The Revels
The Sentinals
Something Wild
The Tim Buley Blues Band
The Tridents
Tripsichord Music Box
The Yankee Dollar

Have a great week!

Your New Website is LIVE

Over the past weeks, perhaps even months, I've been busy building a huge, comprehensive website for which this blog is now a companion site. This is exciting for me because not only is there room to spread out and wiggle our toes, it is organized and easy to navigate. Here's what you'll find there...

Each and every band now has its own page that contains band information, member line-up, links, a discography, and a lightbox photo gallery. In the weeks to come I will also be adding videos and making any changes that you send me.

This is where I want to promote you and your band's upcoming dates. All you have to do is send me the info, and if you have a flyer or poster, all the better!

Here is where you can network with other bands and find out what they're up to these days.

Each month I'll be posting an interview with a band, or a band member. If you would like to take part, contact me!

Free link exchange for your band or business.

Send me anything you'd like to added to your band's page and I'll add it!

Enjoy, and Much Love,

New, Big Changes!

Big changes are coming to California Gold Coast Dreamin'.

I'm currently creating an official website that will include an extensive Bands database, a Gigs page, monthly interviews, lightbox photo galleries, and much more. The old site will remain, but will be drastically pared down to serve as an actual blog for posting announcements and etc.

Besides needing photos and info of our VC, SBC, and SLOC bands, I need information for the Gigs page. Please send your upcoming engagements to me via email and I'll include them in the calendar. This includes jpgs, gifs, or pngs of your promo posters or flyers. It's my wish to help support you as much as I can, and one the ways I can is to promote your gigs.

I'll let you know when this project is completed. You're going to love it!
